Abstract

Introduction: During the pregnancy-puerperal process, the pregnant woman, given her fragility, often becomes a victim of violence from health professionals, characterizing obstetric violence. Objective: to describe what the national and international scientific literature presents about the role of nurses in preventing obstetric violence. Method: integrative review, through a search in three electronic databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MedLine) and Nursing Database - Brazilian Bibliography (BDENF), including articles published between the years 2017 to 2022, through the PICO strategy. Results: knowing the conditioning factors for the occurrence of obstetric violence is essential for its prevention. Among these factors, the following stand out: sociodemographic aspects, infrastructure and care team. Nurses, based on their professional empowerment, have the ability to develop advocacy in nursing regarding the rights of assisted parturients. However, the current care model and the lack of professional training lead to the development of work still marked by violence and disrespect.
