Abstract
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mental disorder that affects women during the puerperal period and represents a significant public health problem due to its impacts on maternal health and child development. Objective: To analyze the impacts of postpartum depression on the mother-baby relationship and discuss the role of nursing in Primary Health Care (PHC). Method: An integrative literature review with a qualitative approach and exploratory nature, this review analyzed 19 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025. The search was conducted in the SciELO, LILACS, BDENF, and PubMed databases using descriptors related to the topic. Results: It was evidenced that PPD compromises maternal responsiveness and the affective bond, potentially leading to cognitive and emotional impairments in the child. Conclusion: Nursing practice in Primary Health Care (PHC) is essential for early identification, welcoming postpartum women, and implementing comprehensive care strategies, highlighting the need to strengthen support networks.
