Abstract

Humanized childbirth constitutes a care model that respects the physiology of birth, the rights of the pregnant woman, and women's autonomy. In this context, obstetric nursing plays a fundamental role by providing qualified care centered on humanized assistance. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of the obstetric nurse in supporting humanized childbirth. The methodology consists of an integrative literature review, with data collected from secondary sources through bibliographic research, using the descriptors: "professional," "obstetric nursing," and "humanized childbirth," in the following databases: LILACS, MEDLINE, and SciELO, accessed through the Virtual Health Library (BVS). The results, mostly from Brazil, highlight the importance of obstetric nursing in promoting humanized care, focusing on the woman in labor. This includes physical and emotional support, evidence-based pain relief practices that empower women during childbirth, and contribute to addressing obstetric violence, even in the face of institutional challenges and relationships with the multidisciplinary team. It is concluded that the presence of the obstetric nurse in humanized childbirth is essential to ensure safe and respectful care, and that greater appreciation and encouragement of their role are necessary.
