This article aims to present and analyze the importance of playing in the child's
development and emphasize the issue of playing beyond pleasure, that is, to highlight games
and their important role for the development of the subject in childhood, as well highlight other
important characteristics of the action of playing, such as self-knowledge, moral development,
competitiveness, culture, cooperation, social relations, etc. Finally, showing that games are
part of the children's universe is a necessary element and a fundamental tool to enhance
children's development. Through bibliographic research in Vygotsky (2007); Friedmann (2012)
and Oliveira (2011) highlight that the act of playing is a great learning experience, involving
other perspectives in the child's behavior. Playing has the power of transformation, that is,
through play the child develops and also learns, and with the cycle changes occur. In this
regard, it is worth emphasizing that teachers should encourage play and propose activities of
a playful nature. formation of the social and intellectual life of the child.
