Abstract

Science teaching is one of the curricular components of fundamental importance in the schooling process. When performed through experimental activities it can help for scientific learning to occur, because practical activities provide a greater interaction between teachers and students. However, in most public schools, it is usually not possible to perform such practices, due to the lack of equipment and/or even the lack of laboratory. A possible solution to this problem would be the realization of the so-called "Science Fairs" or "Scientific Exhibitions" which are events in which students are responsible for disseminating projects carried out by themselves. In this sense, this work aims to analyze the experimental practices of high school students during the 1st Scientific Exhibition held at the State College of the Palmito Sector, in the municipality of Goiânia/GO. The study is a case report, with bibliographic and descriptive research. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. Approximately 20 projects were presented at the Scientific Exhibition. During the exhibitions, each group had the freedom to choose the methodology to explain their work. In the creation and during the presentations of the projects it was possible to identify the creativity and interest of the students. The activity provided learning opportunities through the use of procedures specific to science, such as observing, questioning, formulating and testing hypotheses, where unexpected results happened and contributed to a better understanding of the phenomenon. Despite the mishaps that permeated the construction of the event, this experience showed that the public school can offer more possibilities of teaching and learning, both for teachers and students, in a more diversified perspective that goes beyond the traditional contents. Finally, we can conclude that there was a degree of positive satisfaction from all involved.
