IMPORTÂNCIA DO ALEITAMENTO MATERNO EM RECÉM-NASCIDOS PREMATUROS EM UNIDADE NEONATAL
Keywords:
Premature newborn, Breastfeeding, Neonatal NursingAbstract
Breastfeeding is one of the fundamental pillars of neonatal care, and its impact is
particularly significant when it comes to premature infants. Premature babies require
early stimulation of their readiness and sucking ability to establish oral feeding,
possessing a remarkable capacity to suckle milk directly from the maternal breast.
Therefore, the assistance of qualified professionals in lactation management and
standardized institutional protocols is crucial. Objective: To identify in the literature the
ways in which and when to stimulate breastfeeding in preterm newborns.
Methodology: This is an integrative review as it is a broader method that allows the
inclusion of both theoretical and empirical knowledge, as well as studies with different
methodological approaches: quantitative and qualitative. Results and Discussion:
Breastfeeding counseling is essential for mothers to feel encouraged to breastfeed
their children. Lack of maternal experience and information can often lead to early
weaning. Final Considerations: The timing and type of diet to be initiated in very low
birth weight preterm infants are of utmost importance, as there is no doubt that nutrition
can determine the survival and morbidity of the preterm newborn.
